new York The office of the candidate of the mayor Zohran Mamdani said Thursday that the New York police crimes unit (NYPD) was investigating a threat of car bomb against him, despite not having a car.
“After multiple death threats and racist messages, the Mamdani assembly office is participating in an ongoing investigation by the NYPD hatred working group,” said a declaration from the mayor’s candidate’s candidate. “Although Zohran does not have a car, the violent and specific language of what seems to be a repeated caller is alarming and we take all precautions.
“Although it is a sad reality, it is not surprising after millions of dollars have been spent to dehumanize, an Islamophobic rhetoric designed to stir up the division and hatred,” continued the press release. “Violence and racism should not take place in our policy. Zohran remains focused on the delivery of a safe and affordable New York.”
Mamdani, who is in the running to be the first Muslim mayor in New York, was criticized by his competitors, including former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, for his opinions on Middle East policywhich has reached a boiling point this week in the middle of the ongoing strikes between Israel and Iran.

During a recent debate by the mayor, Mamdani said: “Israel has the right to exist.”
But Mamdani refused to agree that Israel has the right to exist as “Jewish State” but rather “as a state with equal rights”.

NYPD told Fox News Digital that the police had received a report at 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday from an appellant saying that they had received four vocal messages from an unknown individual at various dates, making threatening anti-Muslim statements. Police did not say if the person signaling the threats was Mamdani.
However, the ministry said that no arrest had been carried out in this area and that the investigation remains in progress.
Despite different political opinions, Cuomo condemned The threats were made against his political opponent.

“This is an atrocious threat of political violence against Mr. Mamdani. It is unacceptable – I firmly condemn these threats and others like others,” said Cuomo on X. “This has no room in our policy or our society. Fortunately, no one was injured.
Another candidate for the Democratic Town Hall, New York controller Brad Lander also condemned threats against Mamdani.
“The hideous threats of Islamophobic violence (Zohran Mamdani) are dangerous and morally reprehensible,” said Lander. “I condemn this behavior as far as the extent. Hatred has no place in New York.”

Lander was arrested earlier this week by the Ministry of Internal Security after allegedly assaulted a federal officer.
