JUXTAPOZ Magazine – Richard Prince brings “stickers” to Marfa

Hetzler | Marva I am pleased to announce PostersSolo exhibition for Richard Prince, to display the annual exhibition in Marva, Texas. One of the most prominent representatives of the art of allocation, Richard Prince has re -creating photos and ideas from the media, advertising and entertainment since the 1970s. It is often based on American daily culture products, its practice is one of the “post -production”, which reformulates cultural phenomena and their features to rewrite novels and understanding history.
The current exhibition brings together a large collection of princes’ stickers on the fabric and on paper, which was created between 2014 and 2024. Large paintings show copies of the Mailorder posters, and they were found in the back of the magazines in the second half of the twentieth century. These printed images represent these printed images a great popularity of anti -culture magazines, which are among the interests of princes in the long run. Decorations are distinguished from political slogans and distant art in the form of cheap stickers and selected by the artist. They found their origins in the culture of Hippie Head Shop in the late 1960s, which also included magazines, music and comedies. The recorded and banned images were heated from the pages that were included, and the images were detonated so that the resulting works are much larger than the original stickers.
In its apparently arbitrary choice, the images of stickers combine anti -war slogans, modern art multiplication, graphic design interpretations of naked couples, and cat pictures in different groups at times. The revolutionary position is distinguished from the protests of students in the late 1960s against the self -tolerance of the culture of Habi in this clarification alongside the popular visual language.
If cultural attitudes are transferred through daily images, the prince makes them transparent by applying his technical exercise focus on these source materials. The method and the effects of various contexts are translated, and his careful interest in detail, the artist thinks of communicating with the contemporary visual language and the ideas that are hidden within it.
