A Saturday morning in the early 90s, Kid was deeply me in my cartoon programming when An episode of Looney Tunes has arrived With a detective version of Daffy Duck. His name was Dorlock Holmes, he lived at 221 7/16 Bleeker Street, and his favorite pastime was the deduction. He and his boyfriend Watson, played by a porky pig, were trying to catch someone called the Shropshire slasher, and I was absolutely riveted. The episode was full of references to Holmesian Lore (and Jack the Ripper, because why not) who went entirely above my head, but that didn’t matter. When I discovered that this Dorlock character was inspired by a famous literary detective, I almost ran to the library to get a game.
It took a while before being old enough for the original Arthur Conan Doyle, but I was a constant consumer of books, shows and films in one form or another since Dorlock put me. It is not difficult to do when new catches on Sherlock and his friends appear all the time (Sherry Thomas’ Lady Sherlock Series, The CBS Show Watsonand Enola Holmes de Netflix Films to name it recently).
