JUXTAPOZ Magazine – from dust and breathing: Devon Digardine in New York
Ross + Kramer I am pleased to present From dust and breathingA single exhibition for new works by a Los Angeles -based artist Devon Degardine. From dust and breathing, On May 08 – June 28, 2025 in New York, Marx is the first single exhibition of Diggardine with Ross + Kramer. Diggard’s study of global religion and spiritual traditions informs a lot of his artistic practice. With dust and breathing, the artist turns his focus towards the beginnings, which reflects the concepts of creation, divine intention and infringement of man. The title of the exhibition refers to the idea of the Bible that humanity was formed from dust (or clay) for the earth and giving it life through the same spirit.
Suitable with abstract paintings, stereoscopic characters, which are terminated by “guardians” that stand as fairy tent. Architecture in its dimensions and shape, the characters of the trustee consist of solid geometric forms that remind us of early analytical cubism. The guardianship is often directly towards the viewer, which transmits a feeling of deep charitable vitality. These numbers seem to provide a path to contact between them and the viewer, and in doing this, encourage deep meditation. His characters describe the guardian of an engineering arrangement that does not exist as an individual form of preventive symbolism, but it reaches to be understood through ideologies, regardless of the system of personal belief.
In this group of work, parents in Degardine are seen on the sprawling ethereal landscape, indicating the duplication of human existence – at the same time, the earthly and divine, fragile but not changeable. The artist’s landscape, with its special control and focus plate on the atmosphere, is raised by the mysterious landscape of Dutch golden painters in the seventeenth century such as Aelbert Cuyp, Jan and Art Van Der Neer. Such ancient professors, Diggard integrates symbolic characteristics of thinking about ethical and religious topics that exceed time.
