Trump touts ‘billions’ of Asia trips ahead of Xi Jinping meeting

President Donald Trump has one more important meeting on the agenda, but he is already touting the success of his Asia tour, saying it has brought in “billions” to the United States.
“Bringing billions of dollars back to the United States! A great trip. Facing some very smart, talented and wonderful leaders,” Trump wrote on Social truth. “Tomorrow, Chinese President Xi. It will be a great meeting for both!!!”
Despite what he may have accomplished during his trip, all eyes will be on Trump as he meets with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday. Before leaving on the trip, Trump vowed that he would achieve a “fantastic deal” with China. The meeting will be the first in-person meeting between the two leaders since Trump returned to the Oval Office in January.

While en route to South Korea, where he is expected to meet with Xi, Trump told reporters on Air Force One that fentanyl trafficking would be a focus of the meeting. He also said he hoped to make progress on “a lot of issues,” including trade and tariffs.
“The two heads of state will have in-depth communications on strategic and long-term issues,” a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said. told Reutersconfirming the highly anticipated meeting.
Abroad, Trump signed agreements with Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Japan and South Korea. It has also developed reciprocal trade frameworks with Thailand and Vietnam. Trade deals with Malaysia and Cambodia eliminated or significantly reduced tariffs on U.S. exports. The White House said that under these agreements, non-tariff barriers would be removed and market access for American products would be expanded.

Trump visits South Korea to seek billions in investment
In Malaysia, Trump was also able to secure billions in investments and a crucial minerals deal that the White House says will expand trade and investment. Additionally, in Thailand, Trump struck a crucial minerals deal that would foster partnerships between U.S. and Thai businesses, according to the White House.
In JapanTrump announced that Tokyo had agreed to expand its previous $550 billion investment commitment to the United States. Additionally, he signed an agreement on essential minerals and deepened cooperation between the United States and Japan to combat drug trafficking.
Japan’s investment commitments span several sectors, including artificial intelligence and energy. Additionally, Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae announced that they had ordered “relevant ministers and secretaries to take further steps toward a NEW GOLDEN AGE of the ever-expanding U.S.-Japan alliance.”

Trump predicts ‘very happy’ outcome ahead of face-off with Chinese XI after tariff threats
While in South KoreaTrump made deals that the White House said were worth billions. This includes a deal where Korean Air will buy 103 new Boeing planes worth $36.2 billion. In another deal, the Korea Gas Corporation agreed to buy 3.3 million tons of U.S. liquefied natural gas annually through long-term agreements with sellers.
South Korea awarded Trump the “Grand Order of Mugunghwa,” the country’s highest decoration, according to Reuters. He also received a replica of a royal crown from the ancient Silla Kingdom, symbolizing Seoul’s recognition of its previous diplomatic efforts.

Additionally, Trump began his trip with the signing of the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords, ending the military conflict between Cambodia and Thailand. Trump had already threatened to increase tariffs against the two countries to push them to agree to end the fighting, which has left dozens dead and hundreds of thousands displaced.
Although Trump has said he is willing to sit down with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, no meeting has been scheduled.
