Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced Monday his intention to nominate President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in securing a ceasefire and hostage agreement between Hamas and Israel.

This will be the second time that Pakistan has presented Trump with this award. In June, Pakistan nominated Trump for his role in brokering a ceasefire agreement between Islamabad and neighboring India.

“Pakistan has nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his remarkable and extraordinary contributions to first ending the war between India and Pakistan and then achieving a ceasefire, alongside his very wonderful team,” Sharif said in Egypt, speaking alongside Trump.

“And today, once again, I would like to nominate this great president for the Nobel Peace Prize because I sincerely believe that he is the most genuine and wonderful candidate for the peace prize, because he not only brought peace to South Asia, saving millions of people and their lives,” he added. “And today, here in Sharm el-Sheikh, achieving peace in Gaza saves millions of lives in the Middle East.”

Trump and Sharif were part of a delegation of world leaders gathered in the Egyptian resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh to sign documents related to the Gaza peace deal.

After announcing his intention to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, Sharif turned to the president and gave him a brief salute.

“Mr. President, I would like to salute you for your exemplary and visionary leadership. I believe you are the man the world needs most right now. The world will always remember you as a man who did everything – who did everything possible to stop seven and, today, eight wars,” Sharif added.

Last week, the Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.

Introducing other world leaders, Trump appeared to chastise Norway for last week’s choice.
