Terence Crawford He cemented himself as the best boxer in the world in his super fight with Canelo Alvarez …but the meadows Eddie Hearn He believes there is someone who has the power to beat Bad — Jaron “Butz” Ennis!
TMZ Sports I spoke to legendary boxing promoter Matchroom just days before he takes on undefeated 28-year-old Eddie Awisma Lima Saturday night in front of his hometown fans in Philadelphia.
While Saturday’s bout is important for several reasons — including because Potts, 34-0 (with 30 KOs), moves up to 154 pounds. For the first time – Eddie is also keeping an eye on a host of potential big matches in the future.
“Obviously my job is to support my fighters, but I believe in Boots, we have the number one pound-for-pound in the sport for the next four, five, six years. He’s still young. I mean, he’s 10 years younger than Terrence Crawford, but this is a guy who unified the 147-pound division, and this Saturday, he moves up to fight for the interim world title at 154,” Hearn said. Babcock.
“We got this. We want it.” Virgil Ortiz. we want (Sebastian Fundora). We want Bakram Murtazaliev. Anyone in (154). I believe that this man will move from (147) to (154) to (160) to (168). He has the ability to do it all.”
Crawford fought Alvarez at 168 pounds. …And with fans salivating over a Bud-Boots fight for years, we asked Hearn if it was on their radar.
“For a long time, people talked about Ennis vs. Crawford, right? What we can’t do is diminish or disrespect what Terrence did. I mean he’s a great player in this sport across generations. But if anyone’s going to beat him, I think we’ve got the guy who can beat him,” Eddie said.
Of course, Bud secured all the bags last month…so Eddie realizes they “need to turn Ennis into a fighter who will financially make Crawford take the fight.”
If they can get the money to make sense, Hearn clearly believes this is the fight to be fought.
“Tell me, once we win Saturday, once we beat Ortiz or Fundora, tell me what fights you want to see Terence Crawford in more than Jaron “Boots” Ennis. Yeah, I’ll wait because that could be one of the greatest fights of all time.
“And I think we have the guy who can beat the guy. And he’s the guy now. And we respect that. And if he wants a real challenge, get ready because Boots is coming!”
