“I’m certainly not going to drink this weekend. Things are worrying,” said Rafael Martinez, a 30-year-old architect in São Paulo. “For the moment, I prefer to stick to soda or, at most, to beer, what they said is more difficult to alter.”

The Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, urged Brazilians to “move away from colorless spirits” and have announced new emergency measures, including the purchase of 2,500 doses of fumepizole, an antidote for methanol poisoning and 12,000 medical quality bulbs. The expeditions began on Saturday at five states while the government rushes to prevent more deaths.

According to the ministry, Brazil recorded 127 suspected cases, with 11 confirmed and 12 deaths still under investigation. Most are in São Paulo, although the cases surfaced to Pernambuco and Mato Grosso do Sul. Padilha said that the new stock of stock would ensure that “no patient passes without treatment” and that the two antidotes can be administered even before confirmation of the laboratory.

The Rio de Janeiro tourist hotspot did not record any confirmed cases, but beach kiosks and restaurants have published warnings on social networks to calm visitors.
