Abughazaleh said that the installation of ice, that Noem visited on Friday in another anti-ice protest outside its doors, is a processing installation and should not hold people for more than 12 hours at a time.

“We have heard reports of persons detained for days or weeks both without beds or hot meals or access to hygienic facilities,” she said. “We have heard of grandmothers and pregnant women sleeping on concrete floors of dozens of men in a single cell. Friday, Abughazaleh asked elected officials to be granted access to inspect the establishment.

Pritzker said that Noem “should no longer be able to intervene in the state of Illinois without any form of public responsibility”.

McLaughlin quickly retaliated on Friday, telling Pritzker to “grow up and start protecting people by your own state”.
