Former vice-president Kamala Harris revealed in her new book, “107 Days”, which she had quietly hit Denis McDonough as a choice for the chief of staff in the event that she won the presidential election in 2024.
While Harris admitted that 107 days “were not long enough to accomplish the task of winning the presidency”, his memoirs revealed that the transition plans of the White House were already in motion to assume the presidency.
“We had planned everything, it seemed, except the real result,” wrote Harris.
Harris said that she had decided in early October 2024 that McDonough would be her chief of staff and revealed in the book that he had already accepted the offer more than a month before election day.

“Denis McDonough had been the chief of staff to Barack Obama during his second term, chief of staff to the National Security Council before that, and had been secretary to veterans in our administration,” Harris wrote in the book.
McDonough had recently been secretary to veteran affairs of the administration of President Joe Biden. He was chief of staff to former President Barack Obama from February 2013 to January 2017. McDonough was also deputy national security advisor from October 2010 to January 2013.

The last chapters of the Harris memories detailed its disbelief while the election results were coming.
Harris said that his team had planned “all kinds of contingencies”, including “Trump could win the Pennsylvania and claim a premature victory, so that we can gain a fairness and that Trump’s supporters would react with a violent rejection of the result, that the count could do for days.”
But Harris said they didn’t expect to lose. Harris described in the book how his corporate secretary, Storm Horncastle, had ordered champagne and specially decorated cupcakes.

“She went quietly to the kitchen and hid all the signs of party preparation. She meticulously took off the frosting which said” Madame President “from the top of each cupcake. After converting them into a harmless comforting food, she sent them, as well as more wine, in case people need it,” recalls Harris in the book.
President Donald Trump finally defeated Harris in the 2024 presidential election, obtaining 312 electoral votes for Harris 226. His 107 -day campaign was the shortest presidential campaign in modern history after Biden abandoned the race on July 21, 2024.
