Gronewold added that he knew that “some Oregon people will not understand or support this mission”.
“Some might even be hostile on this subject. But we have already gone through difficult situations,” he wrote. “We are professionals who do our tasks, whatever it is received. … We are not used because it is easy or popular. We serve because it is our duty and because we have taken an oath.”
For those who mobilize, the leaders have said to take care of their families and to “be intelligent” on social networks.
“Do not publish on unit movements, mobilization details or operational information,” wrote Gronewold. “Please do not embark on online political arguments while carrying the uniform or by identifying yourself as a member of the Oregon Guard. Understand that you represent something bigger than you, and the public is looking.”
