Some say that this combination imitates the effects of pre-training supplements, which are intended to improve physical performance and energy levels during the exercise.

Tiktok’s creators and influencers turned to honey on a spoon, or even on the back of their hand, and sprinkled it with salt – many opting for natural options from the two – and taking a dose before heading for the gymnasium.

In an interview with Fox News Digital, the certified holistic nutritionist Robin Decicco confirmed that this strategy “made sense” as a boost before training.
The combination mixes a “rapid digestion carbohydrates” with sodium, which are both considered “beneficial for effective training”, declared the nutritionist based in New Jersey.

“It is generally suggested to eat a snack of carbohydrates (generally mixed with proteins or a little good fat) before a training session to help increase energy and sustained muscle reconstruction, so that is simply said to use honey like carbohydrates / sugar,” she said.
“Essentially, some apple or fruit compote juices can be used in the same way as honey.”

Decicco thinks that this trend is probably popular because honey is quickly digested in the blood circulation and is easily decomposed.
However, it does not recommend consuming only honey and salt before a training session. The addition of a snack with more substance, like whole grain crackers with tuna or peanut butter bananas, could offer more energy, according to the expert.

“These types of snacks will work to provide energy throughout training,” she said. “The snacks can be consumed one to two hours before training, then honey and salt directly before.”
