Vice-president JD Vance said that those who denigrate the police encourage “people crazy to go and commit violence”, after a shooter opened fire in an immigration and customs application (ICE) on Wednesday in Dallas.

“You don’t have to agree with my immigration policies. You don’t have to agree with Donald Trump’s immigration policies. But if your political rhetoric encourages violence against our police, you can go directly to hell,” said Vance on a trip to North Carolina on Wednesday. “And you have no place in the political conversation of the United States of America.”

“If you want to stop political violence, stop attacking our police as Gestapo,” said Vance. “If you want to stop political violence, stop telling your supporters that all those who do not agree with you are Nazis. If you want to stop political violence, look in the mirror. This is how we stop political violence in this country.”

The FBI said that it was investigating the issue as a “targeted attack” against ice, and the Ministry of Internal Security said that it had identified shell boxes with “anti-ice” messages.

Three detainees were slaughtered. One then died while we are in critical condition, according to a declaration by DHS.

No ice officer was injured during the shooting and that the authorities said the shooter died of a self-inflicted ball injury.

“Listen, just because we do not support illegal foreigners, we do not want them to be executed by violent murderers engaged in political violence,” said Vance. “We therefore pray both for our ice agents, but also for all those who are affected by this terrible attack.”

There were several shootings in ICE facilities in 2025, and the DHS reported in July that assaults against ice officers and other federal immigration agents had increased by almost 700% compared to 2024. While the agency declared 10 assault incidents between January 1, 2024 and June 3024, this number increased to 79 same time in 2025.

Other recent episodes of violence against the police include another shooting near the Prairieland of Ice, Texas, of detention in July, where a police officer was shot in the neck.

The White House previously called on Democrats to defuse language towards ice in the middle of the opposition to the Mass Expulsion Program of the Trump administration.

For example, rep. Pramila JayapalD-Wash., Accused of the ice of having acted “as a terrorist force” in June, and then defended his comments in a CNN interview after the White House demanded excuses for the legislator.
