Federal officials make an example of a man from Santa Monica arrested this week to have allegedly doxxing and harassed an ice lawyer, with the architect of the Los Angeles raids and Chicago warning any copycats.

Gregory Curcio risks up to five years in prison if he was sentenced after the Ministry of Justice said he would have published private or identified information on an ice lawyer “with malicious intention”.

The commander of the ice operation “as a whole”, Gregory Bovino, tweeted overnight that anyone target of immigration agents as Curcio should take note of it.

“Dox our agents? You will end up being charged as this man discovered,” said Bovino, whose novice presence of social media and an eminent public figure were both a cause of famous for supporters of the mass expulsion program of President Donald Trump, and a source of indignation for liberal opponents.

Bill Essayli, the American lawyer appointed by Trump for the center of California, pushed the message a little further.

Essayli said Curcio’s arrest proves why ICE agents should be authorized to protect their identity, which is now in conflict with a recently adopted Californian law prohibiting the police from doing so.

Essayli, a Republican and the first Muslim elected to the California State Assembly, castigated the criticisms of federal agents who mask during public operations.

“Why do our agents wear masks? Gregory John Curcio, 68, of Santa Monica was arrested and charged with Doxxing an ice lawyer today,” said Essayli in a statement on social networks.

“We will not tolerate harassment – online or otherwise – federal police,” he added.

“We will find and stop those who disclose personal information on federal agents or their families. All the accused are presumed innocent until guilt is proven in court.”

The Ministry of Justice said the Curcio was arrested on Monday and appeared on Tuesday before a federal judge in Los Angeles who ordered him to imprison without surety before an indictment of October.

“Contrary to what some erroneous people think, federal agents and Doxxing employees are not a harmless crime,” added Essayli in a statement from the Ministry of Justice.

“This endangers the personal security of the agent and that of their family.”

The prosecutors say that Curcio published the original speech of an ice lawyer in February and urged others to “jump” – a term to make false calls in 911 to provoke an armed response of the law.

The lawyer told the police that she had never met the suspect, but that he once lived in a building belonging to his mother and that he was harassing the parent in January 2024.

On Saturday, the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, signed the first law in the nation prohibiting most of the police to obscure their faces during official affairs.

It was considered a direct response to the raids in Los Angeles designed by Bovino, which led to mass demonstrations of the left and generalized praise of the right and the White House, where President Donald Trump federalized the California National Guard and deployed assets in the second American city.

Newsom said on Saturday that the diversity that “makes California formidable” is “in aggression”, while adding the impact of Trump administration policies through the Golden State is “terrifying”.

“It is like a dystopian science fiction film. Unmarked cars, people in masks, people disappearing literally. No regular procedure, no rights, no rights in a democracy where we have rights. Immigrants have rights, and we have the right to get up and repel,” said Newsom.
