The lawyer for the county of Maricopa, Rachel Mitchell, warned that no illegal activity at the Sunday Memorial for Charlie Kirk at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, in Arizona, will be tolerated.

Mitchell’s comments occur at around 100,000 participants are expected in the service, which will showcase speakers, including President Donald Trump and vice-president JD Vance. The federal government has considered it a special level 1 event, the same categorization as the Super Bowl, and requiring in -depth federal interinstitutions support to ensure security.

“This moment calls on the county of Maricopa to intensify and show the nation – and to the world – that we appreciate dignity, civility and the rule of law. We can be models which, even in time of sorrow and disagreement, are united in its commitment to freedom of expression without violence or lightness,” said Mitchell in a declaration published Friday to X.

“Let me be clear: my office will defend the rights of those who come to cry or protest peacefully. Whoever chooses to break the law-violence, destruction of goods or obstruction-will be held responsible,” she added.

“Let us honor the memory of Charlie Kirk and the blessings of freedom not with a division or a disturbance, but with peace and respect for others,” she added.

The secret services said on Saturday that a man armed with a knife and a firearm had managed to enter the stadium. He was placed in police custody and faced charges of identification of an officer, a crime and a weapon where one was not authorized, an offense, according to the Ministry of Public Security of Arizona.

“The individual was approached by secret services and said during the meeting that he was a member of the police and that he was armed,” the statement said, Fox News reported on Saturday morning. “The person is not a member of the authorized police who work on the event and are currently in detention. American secret services and local police are investigating the circumstances of the reason for which he was on the spot.”

The high frequentation of the event will probably lead to a crowd of overflow in Desert Diamond Arena, another large event place in the same region which regularly hosts concerts, as well as rallies for Trump and former vice-president Kamala Harris in the elections in 2024.

Friday, the Glendale police service published an alert of the traffic before the event, stressing that they are “determined to ensure a safe environment”.
