Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, in his podcast “Verdict with Ted Cruz” warned the people recommended on Friday for the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) against opponents, noting if a precedent of censorship is set up, “each conservative in America … regrets it”.
ABC suspended the late evening Jimmy Kimmel “indefinitely” after having declared that the alleged assassin of the co-founder of Turnage Point USA, Charlie Kirk, was another supporter of Maga.
Kimmel failed to submit the file immediately after the indictment against the suspect that Tyler Robinson was made public on Tuesday, which prompted a response from the President of the Federal Commission (FCC), Brendan Carr, who declared to Sean Hannity de Fox News that the agency planned to invigorate the application of the obligation of public interest.

The FCC undergoes dissemination licenses on the condition that the stations serve “the public interest, convenience and necessity”.
Although the first amendment protects freedom of expression, the agency can revoke or refuse the renewal of licenses in the event of false declaration, fraud or lack of character or deductible.
On Friday, in Cruz’s podcast, he questioned Carr’s decision to repress the stations accused of false statements or false statements, saying “what he said that there is dangerous as hell”.
“What he says is that Jimmy Kimmel was lying. It is true, he lied and lying to the American people is not in the public interest,” said Cruz. “He threatens explicitly – we are going to cancel the ABC News license. We will remove it from the air, so ABC can no longer spread. … He threatens it.”

Cruz compared the Carr’s wording to something “as soon as goodfellas”.
“Jimmy Kimmel made fun of so many times,” he said. “The corporate media – they are dishonest. They are liars. I hate what Jimmy Kimmel said. I am delighted that he was dismissed. But let me tell you that if the government is in the field of saying” we do not like what you, the media, we will say, we are going to prohibit you “… which will end up for the conservatives.”
He added that he can be “attractive” for the conservatives to feel that they have government power to prohibit the media, but going on this path, would hurt them when a democrat would bring the White House.
“The next FCC democrat – they will be silent,” said Cruz. “They will use this power, and they will use it ruthlessly, and it is dangerous. … They have defined everything that is contrary to the leftist story as disinformation.”

Cruz argued that if a station commits a slander linked to Kirk or his family, there is already a remedy.
He suggested prosecution stations for defamation and “let the process be played”.
“I think it is incredibly dangerous for (the) government to put itself in the position of saying:” We are going to decide which speech we love and what we do not like, and we will threaten to withdraw you from the air if we do not like what you say, “said Cruz.” It could be good at the moment to threaten Jimmy Kimmel, but when it is used to silence all conservatives in America will regret.
“So again, I like Brendan Carr, but we should not be in this company. We should denounce it. It is good to say what Jimmy Kimmel said was deplorable. It was shameful, and he should be out of the air, but we should not threaten the government’s power to force it apart. It is a real mistake.”

On Friday, during a press conference at the Oval Oval Office of the White House, President Donald Trump said that he did not agree with Cruz’s assertion, describing Carr as “courageous”.
“I think Brendan Carr is an incredible American patriot with courage,” said Trump. “I remember that in the past, the networks would like to be revised, it was always a big problem. They had to show honesty and integrity. People did not give networks any credibility. “”

During the Biden administration, a non -profit organization called Media and Democracy Project filed a petition in 2023 with the FCC asking that the renewal of license from a local station belonging to Fox to Philadelphia be refused, citing the coverage of the Fox elections.
The FCC, under the president of the time, Jessica Rosenworcel, rejected the petition on January 16, four days before Trump took office for his second mandate, noting that it would be “fundamentally in contradiction with the first amendment” for the government to refuse renewals on the basis of the speech and protected content, according to legal documents.
Cruz’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s comments.
