Hakeem Jeffries gives an answer to four words about the reasons why he missed Charlie Kirk Vigil

The chief of the minority of the room, Hakeem Jeffries, Dn.y., shared only a brief response of four words when a journalist asked him on Tuesday why he had missed a vigil of the Congress for Charlie Kirk.

“I had a meeting,” said Jeffries when the case was discussed during his afternoon press conference.

Chamber Mike Johnson, R-La., Announced on Monday that Congress would have a vigil later in the evening to honor the conservative activist.

Kirk was assassinated last week when a shooter opened fire during a university campus speech event in Utah.

Fox News Digital has only seen a handful of democrats in the House on the eve, side by side with dozens of republican legislators.

When asked why more Democrats were not present, Jeffries said on Tuesday: “I don’t know.”

“I guess you will have to talk to the individual democrats about what was happening with others and why they were present or why they were not present,” he said.

The vigil took place in the statuary room of the American Capitol at 6 p.m. Monday evening.

Democratic legislators who attended include representatives Tom Suozzi, Dn.y., Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Wash., John Larson, D-Conn., Jimmy Panetta, D-Calif., Debbie Dingell, D-Mich., Chris Pappas, Dn.H., and Don Davis, Dn.c.

Particularly absent were the four best democrats in the House in high direction, including Jeffries.

Johnson, however, minimized the lack of democratic attendance in the comments to journalists on Monday.

“Honestly, I did not even see the composition of the group,” he said when he asked if he was disappointed with the number of democrats who arose.

“I’m glad it was bipartite, and I would have liked that more participated, and I don’t know why they did not do it. So I don’t know what else we can do but offer a bipartisan vigil all the members. And we did it regularly for other things.”
