Florida’s city councilor who laughed at the assassination of Kirk as a “ sacrifice ” to the “lords” of pistol faces requests for resignation

A city councilor in the village of Florida is under pressure to resign from his post after having laughed at the shocking assassination of Charlie Kirk as “appropriate sacrifice” to the “lords” of firearms, but has so far rejected the resignation.

“Charlie Kirk is an appropriate sacrifice to our Lords Smith & Wesson. Hallowed to be their names,” wrote Palmetto Bay, Florida, city councilor Steve Cody in an article on Facebook now deleted after Kirk’s assassination on Wednesday, CBS Miami reported.

The message sparked a condemnation attack on social networks, including users pointing out on Facebook and X that Cody was a “shameful man” and “shame”, while others demanded that he be dismissed.

“If this message on Facebook is legitimate, Steve Cody should immediately resign from his position as a member of the Palmetto Bay council,” said Florida Republican Attorney General James Uthmeier Posted at X Thursday.

In the bay of Palmetto, Florida, which is located in the county of Miami – Dade, the mayor also called it to resign, while the council voted on Monday 4-1 to censor it. Cody was the only member of the Council to vote against censorship.

“As civil servants, we are responsible for showing the example and maintaining the values ​​of respect, empathy and civility that form the foundation of our democracy,” wrote the mayor of Palmetto Bay, Karyn Cunningham, in his conviction Thursday of the post. “We must model the kind of peaceful discourse that we want to see reflected in our society.”

“In this spirit, and with great respect for the office I hold, I must call Cody Cuody Cuody to resign,” she added.

The city councilor, however, does not plan to resign.

“I will not resign,” Cody told Fox News Digital on Tuesday when asked the mounting pressure to resign.

Cody was elected for the first time as Baie de Palmetto, Florida, member of the Council in 2020, and re -elected to the post in 2024, according to his official Biography of the Council. The city councilor is a lawyer who previously specialized in commercial disputes and the defense of mortgage foreclosure, the biography described.

He has since removed the position, which included a graphic quote and 2023 of Kirk saying: “It is worth having a cost, unfortunately, of deaths by firearms each year” for the rights of the second amendment.

Cody wrote another Facebook post Thursday in return for his original remarks, but not stopping at the development of whether he would resign.

“I unfortunately made an important error in judgment by sharing a quote on my personal Facebook page which referred to the remarks made by the late Charlie Kirk in 2023 concerning the second amendment and armed violence,” he wrote. “This action, born from my deep anger and my frustration in the face of the now too common tragedy of armed violence, was wrong.”

“I mean unequivocally that this post does not have and does not reflect my personal values, my deeply detained beliefs or my solemn responsibilities as elected,” he added.

Cody Facebook page was no longer available from Friday afternoon, Fox News Digital found.

Kirk was assassinated in UTAH on September 10, while he was on the campus of the University of Utah Valley as part of the US USA US Turning Point tour when he was struck by a single neck. He was talking to students when he was sitting in a tent outside when he was shot.

The suspect of the assassination was identified as Tyler Robinson, 22, from Utah. He was arrested later Thursday evening, Utah Spencer Cox said on Friday. Cox added that the shell envelopes recovered at the scene of the shooting were registered with an anti-fascist messaging, shedding light on a political motive behind the tragedy.
