The republican representative Michael McCaul of Texas will not present himself to re -election in 2026.

The longtime legislator noted during an appearance on ABC “This Week” that he will serve the rest of his current mandate, but is looking for a “new challenge”.

McCaul previously chaired the Internal Security Committee and the Committee of the Chamber of Foreign Affairs.

“It was the honor of a life to represent the people of the center of Texas and to preside over the prestigious internal security and foreign affairs committees,” said the member of the Congress on Social Networks publications.

“The service of my father during the Second World War inspired me to continue a life of public service, emphasizing the defense of our great nation against global threats, and I was proud to carry out this mission to the congress for more than two decades. I am ready for a new challenge in 2027 and I look forward to continuing to serve my country in national security and the field of foreign policy,” he noted.

McCaul served the House of Representatives of the United States for more than two decades.

The legislator of the Lone Start State took office in 2005.
