This took almost three months, but the best Democrat in New York State finally approved the candidate for the Democrat Town Hall of New York, Zohran Mamdani.
“New York deserves a mayor who will resist Donald Trump and make life more affordable for New Yorkers. It’s @zohrankmamdani,” said New York Governor Kathy Hochy on Sunday evening.
Governor’s approval is important because it can help Mamdani guarantee the support of other key members of the party establishment. And this will probably exert more pressure on two other high -level Democrats in New York State who still refuse their support from Mamdani – the head of the Senate minority, Chuck Schumer, and the minority chief of the Hakeem Jeffries Chamber, the two main leaders of the Democratic Party in the Congress.
Mamdani, in a statement, said that he was “grateful to the governor of his support in the unification of our party – as well as the work she has accomplished to President Trump, obtaining free meals for our children and expanding access to child care.”

Hochul announced his support for Mamdani, the legislator of the 33 -year -old Democratic Socialist State of Queens who shocked the political world in June with his convincing victory over former governor Andrew Cuomo and nine other candidates to seize the appointment of the mayor of the Democratic Party, in the New York Times.
“In the past few months, I have had frank conversations with him. We have had our disagreements,” wrote the governor. “But in our conversations, I heard a leader who shares my commitment to a New York where children can grow safely in their neighborhoods and where the opportunity is at hand for each family. I have heard a leader who focuses on the affordable meeting in New York – a goal that I support with enthusiasm.”
Position of the survey: What is the size of Mamdani’s head in the town hall race in New York?
The Mamdani, born Ugandan, was elected, would become the first Muslim and first millennial mayor of the most populous city in the country. He is the clear precursor in the last surveys of public opinion in the race for the town hall in the city dominated by the Democrats.

Mamdani is seated on meters of 22 points on Cuomo and the rest of the field in surveys published last week from Quinnipiac University and New York Times / Siena College. And a survey by Emerson University and the Hill also indicates Mamdani comfortably in front of the two figures.

The co-founder of Guardian Angels, Curtis Sliwa, who, for a second consecutive election, is the Republican candidate for the town hall in the city dominated by the Democrats, was a third distant from the ballot box, with the mayor besieged Eric AdamsWho presents himself as independent after having decided to jump the Democratic primary in the middle of the anemic survey, lower in fourth place.
Sliwa and Adams have repeatedly committed to staying in the race in recent weeks in the midst of several reports that Trump advisers have exercised administration roles for the mayor’s two hopes if they abandoned.
On Sunday, following a new report that ADAMs would abandon in the coming days, the mayor’s spokesperson retaliated.
“Let me be perfectly clear: any rumor or tweet suggesting that the mayor Adams is moving this week is complete bulls-“, spokesman Todd Shapiro wrote in a press release. “These lies are divided by desperate opponents who cannot match the mayor’s record, his campaign energy or his support in this city.”

Mamdani has reached the primary democratic victory thanks to an energetic campaign which has emphasized the affordability and the high cost of New York life. It was fueled by an army of basic supporters and the support of the best national national champions, including Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York and Senator Bernie Sanders from Vermont.
Mamdani has made intelligent use of social media platforms, including Tiktok, while he was engaging in low propagation voters. He proposed to eliminate the prices to set up the vast bus system from New York, making rents from Cuny (University of the City of New York), freezing rents on municipal housing, offering “free daycares” for children up to 5 years and the establishment of grocery stores managed by the government.
Mamdani was strongly criticized by his rivals for his past critical comments from the New York Police Department (NYPD), and his proposal to keep certain responsibilities from the NYPD and to focus on social services and the community program.
Hochul recently said that Mamdani apologies were in order, and the mayor’s hope told New York Times a few days ago that he intended to apologize.
Hochul said that in her conversations with Mamdani, she said “that it was very clear that our police should have all the resources to ensure the security of our streets and our metros. I urged him to ensure that there is a strong leadership at the head of the NYPD – and he accepted.”
The governor also discussed Mamdani’s past critical comments on Israel.
“We discussed the need to fight against the rise of anti -Semitism urgently and unequivocally. I was happy to see him meet Jewish leaders across the city, listen and respond directly to their concerns,” said Hochul.
Hochul’s approval can not only benefit not only in Mamdani, but could also help the governor strengthen the support of the progressive basis of Democrats as it seeks to be re -elected next year.
Mamdani congratulated Hochul for his accent on the fight against affordability.
“I can’t wait to fight alongside its history to put money in the pockets of New Yorkers and build a safer and stronger New York city where nobody is forced to go just so that they can afford to raise a family,” he said.

But the Republican representative Elise Stefanik from New York, a high ally of Trump who should later this year to launch a race in 2026 for the governor, targeted Hochul.
“At the exact time when New Yorkers are looking for a solid leadership of their governor with an opposite majority Zohran Mamdani, Kathy Hochul embraces this unleashed communist who will destroy New York, which makes him less affordable and more dangerous-again putting criminals and communists, and New Yorks last,” said Stefanik in a statement.
