Why should you take a moment to remember Charlie Kirk during university football

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

This is another glorious university football on Saturday, but perhaps taking a second today to remember a big football fan like you and I who will not be able to take advantage of the day with us.

Charlie Kirk.

As you are undoubtedly the conscious, we have lost the influential activist and the media personality this week in an act of heinous violence during an USA Turning Point event at the University of Utah Valley in Orem, Utah.

While Kirk was, of course, better known for his work in the political sphere, he was also a big fan of sport, in particular a big fan of Oregon Ducks, a fact noted by the founder of the Clay Travis tool.

Although he was not Oregon, Kirk was a big fan of the Ducks and posted on this subject quite regularly.

In 2024, he shared a photo of himself with the QB of Ducks of the time and the current Denver Bronco Bo Nix, saying that he is “an incredible Christian, husband, and will make a formidable NFL player”.

Saturday – the first university football Saturday since his death – Kirk’s Ducks was on the road for a match against the Wildcats of the North West University in Evanston, Illinois, not at all from the suburbs of Chicago where he grew up.

We do not know what his plans were, but there is no doubt that he would have at least settled.

Since Kirk spent a large part of his career on university campuses to promote a culture of debate and galvanize students sharing the same ideas, it was a little disappointing not to see many tributes in university football.

However, there have been many student bodies. There is no doubt that Kirk was in the minds of many players who take fields across the country this weekend, including in this Oregon locker.

The Ducks are back home on September 20 when they welcome Oregon’s state beavers at the Autzen stadium.

Who knows what the team has planned, but it seems as good as anything to take a second to remember a big fan who left us too early.
