President Trump says that “the only reason” of Memphis’ crime is broken is the deployment of the FBI

President Donald Trump said on Saturday that “the only reason why the crime was somewhat down” in Memphis, in Tennessee, is because he sent the FBI and other federal officers to address “absolutely terrible crime issues” in the past five months.

In a social truth jobTrump added that he had done the same in Chicago and Los Angeles.

The position comes after Trump said on Friday that Memphis was the next city he is considering a potential deployment of national guard troops to combat crime.

Memphis, Who borders the Mississippi river, had the highest violent crime rate and the third highest rate of murder in the United States in 2024, according to data provided by the White House. So far this year, nearly 150 homicides have been reported in the city.

The republican governor of Tennessee, Bill Lee, said in an X post that he was “grateful for the support and commitment of the president to provide all the resources necessary to serve the Memphians”.

“I can’t wait to work with local officials and police to continue to provide results,” wrote Lee.

Senator Marsha Blackburn, R-Venn., Added Trump “replied (his) call” to make Memphis again safe, noting that she supports the deployment of national guards after her “enormous success” in the reduction of violent crimes in the national capital.

While the mayor of Memphis, Paul Young, said that he supported targeted federal initiatives, other local officials were less than optimists.

“In the short term, the president’s foray will probably cause confusion and fear in many of our communities, especially the most vulnerable,” said Harris. “In the long term, the brand of Tennessee communities occupied by federal forces will harm the reputation of our state during the generations.”
