Ryan Routh’s federal trial, the alleged assassin accused of President Donald Trump in his West Palm Beach golf club last year, is expected to start on Thursday.

After several selection cycles of the jury that started on Monday, a panel of 12 jurors – as well as four substitutes – were seated on Wednesday. The group includes six white women, four white men, a black woman and a black man. The alternates are made up of two white women and two white men.

Opening arguments are scheduled for Thursday at the Fédéral Justice of Justice in Fort Pierce, Florida, where prosecutors should quickly pass to the presentation of their case.

About 180 people were summoned for the jury in three waves of 60 years. Prosecutors and Routh, who refused public defense and chose to self-represent candidates interviewed to determine if they could serve impartially.

At the end of Tuesday, the court had already rejected more than 70 of the first 180 potential jurors, many of which citing strong opinions on Trump, links with the police or concerns concerning impartiality in a highly politicized case.

Roth pleaded not guilty of the federal accusations of having tried to assassinate a great presidential candidate and to attack a federal officer. Prosecutors say he was armed with an AK -style rifle when secret service agents stopped him near Trump golf course West Palm Beach In September 2024. The attempt intervened just a few months after Trump was shot dead and has barely survived an assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The trial should last two to four weeks with the judge named Aileen Cannon, at the head of the trial.
