Mayor VI Lyles de Charlotte, in North Carolina, won the primary of the mayor of the Democratic Party on Tuesday during an election overshadowed in the last days by the deadly stabs of a Ukrainian refugee Aboard a city train.

The death death of Iryna Zarutska last month on a mild rail train by a man with history of mental illness and more than a dozen arrests quickly attracted national attention and rekindled a conversation on crime after the video of the security of the horrible attack were released and became viral.

Lyles’ response to the murder has been criticized and the Republicans claim that the mayor and the other Democrats are too soft for people with judicial lockers.

Although he did not specifically criticize the mayor, President Donald Trump argued on Monday that the “victim’s blood was in the hands of the Democrats who refuse to put bad people in prison”.

Trump also blamed the murder of Zarutska on former Democratic Governor Roy Cooper, who is now presenting himself in the Senate in the battlefield in North Carolina in a crucial confrontation in 2026 which could determine if the Republicans keep control of the Chamber.

Décarlos Brown Jr., who is black, was arrested shortly after stab wounds and accused of first degree murder. On Tuesday, the Ministry of Justice accused Brown of a commission head of an act causing death on a mass transport system.

According to the police archives, he has been arrested 14 times in the past 12 years.

Lyles, who is Charlotte’s first black mayor, faced four less known Challengers in the Democratic primary, with the murder increasingly under the spotlight.

One of the mayor’s rivals, Tigress Sydney Acute McDaniel, accused Lyles’ response to be a “day late and a short dollar film”.

Lyles is now going to the general elections of the city dominated by the Democrats against the republican candidate Terrie Donovan, a real estate agent who had already made the crime his first issue even before the murder.
