The suspect, identified as Decarlos Brown, 34 first degree murder. The files obtained by the New York Post have shown that Brown has history of arrests that go back more than a decade, including accusations of crime, theft with a dangerous weapon and communicating threats. Police said Brown and Zarutska did not know each other and that the attack had been random.

Zarutska’s death has renewed calls for public security action in Charlotte. The members of the Municipal Council of Charlotte expressed their concern after the murder of Zarutska concerning violence on the city’s public transport system.
