Argentinian prosecutors charged the daughter of a fugitive Nazi officer to have tried to hide an Italian painting from the 18th century which was pillaged during the Second World War and has not been seen publicly for 80 years.

The accusations occurred one day after Patricia Kadgien, the 59 -year -old daughter of the Nazi officer Friedrich Kadgien, who stole it from a main European art merchant during the Second World War, gave “the portrait of a woman” to the authorities. The painting of the Italian artist Giuseppe Ghislandi probably dates back to around 1710, with a value of around $ 50,000, reported the Associated Press, citing an artistic expert.

The heir to the original owner of painting, the Dutch Jewish art collector, Jacques Goudstikke, who died in a shipwreck while he was fleeing Amsterdam during the war, would have made a legal demand to recover the work of art. The descendants of Goudstikke made efforts to recover around 1,100 paintings which have been missing since it was forced to sell its vast collection of art to Hermann Göring, the right arm of Adolf Hitler, according to the Associated Press.
