MJ officials discuss the potential restrictions of firearms for transgender people

Officials from the Ministry of Justice had several internal meetings on setting up the limitations of the ability of transgender people to buy firearms, Fox News Digital learned.
The conversations of MJ officials are at an early stage and no concrete measure has been taken, according to conversations with several sources.
But the discussions surrounding two highly disputed questions for the Republicans – preserving the rights of the second amendment and the tightening policies of transgender people – occur.
A source highlighted a “model” of shots made by transgender people, including the recent tragedy in a Catholic Church in Minnesota. Robin Westman, who was appointed Robert until 2019, killed two children and injured more than a dozen others before dying by suicide. Westman’s firearms have been legally purchased, according to The Associated Press.

Another source said that DOJ’s discussions on the prohibition of transgender persons to buy or have firearms involved the office of legal advisers, which provides legal advice to the executive embrasure. The source said that MJ officials are currently thinking about an achievable legal framework. Such discussions were likely to hug in the alcohol, tobacco, firearms and explosives office (ATF), which is part of the DOJ and has authority on federal rules linked to firearms.
Asked about the talks, a spokesperson for the DoJ, minimized discussions by targeting transgender people, telling Fox News that the ministry examined many options to cope with the correlation between fire and mental health, but that he has found nothing specific.
“The DoJ actively assesses the options to prevent the scheme of violence that we have found by people with specific mental health challenges and drug addiction disorders,” said the spokesperson. “No specific proposal for criminal justice has been advanced at the moment.”

One of the sources said that MJ officials “examine the means to ensure that sick people suffering from gender dysphoria are unable to obtain firearms while they are unstable and sick.”
People with mental health problems are generally not prohibited from buying firearms under current laws, which the Supreme Court has reaffirmed as recently as in 2024 in United States v. Rahimi.
But in some cases, such as a court considering a mentally incompetent person, this information is supposed to occur during an audit verification and prevent a customer from obtaining a license in firearms.
Defenders of firearms rights quickly responded to DOJ’s efforts to find ways to prevent transgender people from buying or having firearms.
The Firearms Policy Coalition has threatened to continue if the MJ’s conversations have materialized in concrete policy proposals.

“If the Trump administration – or any administration – chooses in an imprudent and immoral way to handle the power of government in conflict with the Constitution, the Federal Law or our values, FPC will take aggressive measures to defend the rights of peaceful persons, just as we have already done,” the group said in a statement.
The declared mission of the Firearms Policy Coalition is “to eliminate prohibitions on arms protected by the Constitution, public transport, personal manufacturing of arms and non -dangerous legal adults”.

The actions of the DoJ correspond to the series of executive actions of Trump when he took office designed to change policies concerning transgender people. The president said in his orders that only two sexes existed, male and female; that people with gender dysphoria cannot be used in the army; And that students would violate title IX if they were in competition in sports exclusive to their opposite sex.
Fox News contacted the White House to comment on Doj to float the idea of prohibiting transgender people from buying firearms.
