Governors of the West Coast launch an alliance to reject Trump CDC vaccine rules

Three Democratic governors on the West Coast come together to bypass President Donald Trump’s health program – a decision that the Ministry of Health and Social Services (HHS) has decontracted the “failed Pandemic policy”.

Governors have decided to reject the rules of Trump Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and to create their own vaccine directives, potentially putting state policies in contradiction with federal directives.

“The States led by Democrats have pushed the locking of non-scientific schools, the mandates of the Mask for Toddlers and Draconian Passports of the Vaccine during the Covid era completely eroded the confidence of the American people in public health agencies,” the HHS spokesman Andrew Nixon said on Thursday.

Nixon has added the Vaccination Practices Advisory Committee (APIP) “remains the scientific body which guides vaccination recommendations in this country” and that the health service “will ensure that politics is based on rigorous evidence and the sciences of gold standards”.

The 17 members of the AIPI were rejected in June while the secretary of HHS, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., promised to “restore public confidence” in vaccination councils.

California Governor Gavin Newsom, Oregon Governor Tina Kotek and Washington Governor Bob Ferguson launched the West Coast Health Alliance on Wednesday, just a day before Kennedy testifies on the vaccines before the Senate Finance committee. The hearing comes just a month after the dismissal of the CDC director Susan Monarez.

“Mass dismissal by President Trump of CDC doctors and scientists – and its flagrant politicization of the agency – is a direct aggression against the health and security of the American people,” governors said in a joint statement. “The CDC has become a political tool that increasingly peddles the ideology instead of science, the ideology that will lead to serious health consequences. California, Oregon and Washington will not allow the inhabitants of our states to be endangered.”

Bipartisan Fury at CDC: Senators ask for probe, reject vaccination advice as illegitimate

Governors are planning not to take into account the CDC directives under Trump and will publish their own vaccine and health coordinates in their states, based on medical groups such as American Academy of Pediatrics and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. If it is finalized, the Alliance could create duel health systems, where millions of residents in California, Oregon and Washington follow recommendations for state vaccinations that could conflict with federal advice.

“Thanks to this partnership, the three states will begin to coordinate health guidelines by aligning the vaccination recommendations informed by respected national medical organizations,” a press release on the Newsom website said.

The tribal nations will continue to exercise full sovereignty over the vaccination programs, according to the press release, noting that the Alliance will not interfere with the power of the tribes recognized by the federal government to define their own health policies.

The CDC has been agitation for months after the Trump administration has moved to Clean House from the agency, dismissing hundreds of staff members and dismantling divisions that have long been accused of political prejudices. At the end of August, the director of the CDC, Susan Monarez, was ousted less than a month after the start of employment after resisting new vaccine guidelines, triggering a wave of resignations by senior officials.

According to the Washington Post, anonymous CDC officials said that HHS leaders, including Kennedy Jr., pressed Monarez to withdraw approvals for certain COVVI-19 vaccines. When she refused to follow, the administration officials told her that she had to resign or face the end. Monarez has since retained lawyers Mark Zaid and Abbe Lowell, who previously declared that she “had not resigned or even dismissed”.

Blue states say that new policies will be finalized in the coming weeks.
