As the summer days ended, travelers still hit the beaches to dive into the ocean.

Those in the northeast can face a greater risk of shark attacks because new data show an increase in major white observations.

The Oquunquit (OFD) fire service in Maine shared a shark notice last week on its Facebook page.

“A credible observation of a large white shark 6 to 8 feet was reported about 200 meters from the small beach near the mouth of the river,” wrote Ofd.

The authorities set up a yellow flag on August 19 to warn the fester and remind people to “follow the opinions displayed”.

There was also an increase in large white sharks near Nova Scotia waters in Canada, according to an article in the Marine Ecology Progress series published in inter-research in May.

Researchers attribute the increase to overall growth in the population of Great Whites between the years 2019 and 2021.

They also say that it could be due to “changes in the use of the home which make the distribution of the population move to the north during the warmer months”.

There were 47 bites of sharks not caused worldwide in 2024, with 28 in the United States, according to the Florida Museum of Natural History (ISAF).
