While the American elite is looking for more and more “golden” visas around the world, others are looking for “refugee status” closer to their home.
The Canada Immigration and Refugees Council has published data highlighting a peak from the Americans moving to the country of the maple leaf.
The data, shared on Thursday, revealed that more Americans applied to the status of refugee in Canada in the first half of 2025 in 2024, Reuters reported.

There have been 245 refugee complaints so far this year, with 204 complaints filed last year.
The 245 Americans who applied have exceeded the number of each full year since 2019, according to Reuters.

Although the data do not specify the reasons why the Americans are looking for refugee status, many reports suggest political disagreements with the Trump administration.
