Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro accused the United States on Monday of a change of diet in his country in the middle of a naval accumulation in the Caribbean.
The military deployment was authorized by President Donald Trump in order to disrupt the activity of the drug cartel, as part of his broader border policy. However, Maduro said accumulation is an intervention in the affairs of his country.
“They are looking for a change of regime thanks to a military threat,” said Maduro to journalists, officials and military brass in uniform in Caracas, echoing the comments last week by the representative of his government at the United Nations.

“These cartels have embarked on historical violence and terror throughout our hemisphere – and in the world – which has destabilized the economies and internal security of the countries, while flooding the United States of fatal drugs, violent criminals and vicious gangs,” said Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell at a press conference.
“This requires total government effort, and thanks to coordination with regional partners, the Ministry of Defense will undoubtedly play an important role in achieving the president’s objective to eliminate the capacity of these cartels to threaten the territory, security and security of the United States and its inhabitants,” added Parnell. “By security and politics, we do not speculate on future operations.”
