The DoJ removes experience of experience in immigration law for temporary judges

In an apparent effort to combat millions of cases of immigration in the background, the Ministry of Justice has made a change of rule to allow lawyers without experience in immigration law to act as temporary immigration judges.
The Doj’s Office of Immigration Review published the rule in The Federal Register Thursday, which removes the requirement according to which temporary immigration judges have a substantial previous experience in immigration law.
Jurists approved by the Attorney General Pam Bondi can serve as immigration judges, which represents a change in tide after more than 100 judges were dismissed or bought by the Trump administration earlier in 2025.
The Doj hopes that by widening the net as to which could hear the cases related to immigration, the most than three million background case could finally be assured.
