Trump makes an order on the favorite architectural style for federal buildings

President Donald Trump, a rich real estate magnate who cares about the construction of aesthetics, published a decree declaring traditional and classic architecture on Thursday as a favorite style for federal buildings.

“Applicable federal public buildings should raise and embellish public spaces, inspire the human mind, ennobled the United States and order respect for the general public. They should also be visually identifiable as civic buildings and, if necessary, respect the regional architectural heritage”, “the” order says.

This language corresponds precisely to the language included in a similar decree that Trump published during the end of his first mandate, “promoting a beautiful federal civic architecture”, which President Joe Biden canceled in 2021.

“Architecture – in particular traditional and classic architecture – which meets the criteria set out in this sub -section is the preferred architecture for applicable public buildings applicable. In the District of Columbia, classical architecture will be the favorite architecture and default for federal public buildings absent from exceptional factors requiring another type of architecture”, declares the new order of the president.

Other architectural styles are not prohibited by its decree.

The text notes that “classic and traditional architecture is favorite architectural design modes”, but “preference does not exclude the possibility of alternative styles in appropriate circumstances”.

And while the president focuses on the aesthetics of the order, he also keeps in mind costs and reliability.

“The conceptions must adhere to the practice of construction and use proven materials, methods and equipment. The buildings must be economical to build, exploit and maintain, and must be accessible to the disabled,” notes command.
