President Donald Trump Tuesday, journalists said that he thought that crime will be a major objective in the mid-term elections in 2026, a theme on which he has greatly brought in recent days to stimulate his support for his controversial “federalization” in Washington, DC

Speaking Tuesday at a meeting from the Cabinet to the White House, Trump was asked about his push to “federalize” The national capital by invoking the DC Home Rule Act to deploy hundreds of troops from the National Guard of DC throughout the city – an effort which it has suggested to more than one opportunity should be adopted by certain cities led by Democrats, including Chicago.

“I think the crime will be the great thing,” said Trump, concerning the mid -term elections of 2026. The rest of his response was unambiguous – so hyperbolic and lacking in details.

“The Republicans are the party that wants to stop crime,” he said. “We are against crime.”

That, in fact, he can do, remains an open question – and that which the experts have suggested could invite a litany of problems and legal challenges.
