“I had hoped that my commitment to re -election in all circumstances would encourage the member of the Casar congress not to return his winning district to Trump,” Doggett said in a statement on Thursday. “Although its apparent decision is the most unhappy, I prefer to devote the coming months to fight against Trump’s tyranny and serve Austin rather than lead a struggle with its democratic colleagues. If the extreme Gerrymandering prevails, I hope that the member of the Casar Congress the best.”
Casar said Thursday in response: “Lloyd Doggett is an Austin institution. I learned from him so much. I am grateful to him. The fight for continuous democracy.”
He wrote on X Monday morning at his decision to change the district: “I will continue to fight against the Gerrymander of Trump. If the new cards hold, I run in the new district of Austin (37), which includes my house, my district of the municipal council and 250,000 of my current voters.”
