More details on the president Donald Trump The potential deployment of additional national guard troops in Chicago could be developed this week.

This decision comes as the Trump administration is coupled with its difficult program on crime, seeking a broader federal footprint in the cities led by Democrats, attracting declines of local leaders who argue that this decision is political.

Trump promises to make the DC “safer” and “beautiful” while the capital fights crime and homelessness

On Friday, Trump said that he would tackle crime in other major American cities, describing DC as a “hellish hole” before the federal police and more than 2,200 members of the National Guard were mobilized to patrol the streets of the city. “Now for sure,” said the president one day after visiting the troops deployed in the capital.

US prosecutor general Bondi said last week that more than 700 arrests have been made in DC since August 11.

Trump said he would broaden security efforts to other major American cities across the country, distinguishing Chicago but offering few details.

“Chicago is a mess. You have an incompetent mayor. Tower incompetent,” said Trump on Friday, adding that the windy city “will be our next after that”, a reference to the current security presence in Washington.

Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson, a democrat, said in a statement on Friday that his city had not yet received details on additional federal police or military deployments in Chicago. He described the efforts of the Trump administration as “non -coordinated, without effect and unrelated”.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker said in a statement on Saturday that he had not heard of the federal government either and noted that his condition had not asked for security assistance.

Chicago, which houses around 2.7 million people, exceeded the nation in homicides for 13 consecutive years, recording 573 in 2024 only, according to the city’s own figures.

It is not immediately clear what will be the size and scope of the potential deployment in Chicago, or when it could start.

During the weekend, Trump threatened to send the National Guard to Baltimore following an invitation from the Governor of Maryland, Wes Moore, to attend a public security march and learn more about security needs.

Earlier this month, the Trump administration has deployed plans to limit the crime and the growing population of the homeless in the national capital.

“The mayor of DC, Muriel Bowser, is a good person who has tried, but she has received many chances, and the crime figures are getting worse, and the city only becomes dirty and less attractive. The American public will no longer bear it,” Trump wrote in a social article of truth on August 10.

Trump wrote in a separate Post social post that he wants the homeless “immediately” move away “from” the national capital. “Criminals, you don’t have to move. We are going to put you in prison where you belong,” he wrote in the same article, adding that the new repressions on the two questions “will happen very quickly”.
