The Democrat of Texas James Talarico campaigned on the species of the elections, but the files show that he has conceded checks of an improbable source: a republican and flexible billionaire.
Last year, from Talarico, came from a CAP supported by the Casino magnate Miriam Adelson, the widow of the longtime republican megadonor Sheldon Adelson. The files show that Talarico received $ 59,000 from Texas Sands Pac d’Adelson in 2024, making the group its biggest donor for this year.
A representative of the Talarico office defended his acceptance of the funds, Politico That although it is opposed to the treasury of the big gifts which influence the elections, “he will not disarm unilaterally and will not leave the republicans of Texas playing by different rules.
“The Talarico representative thinks that our campaign financing system is deeply broken,” said spokesperson Antonio Esparza at the point of sale. “This is why he filed a legislation to cap the contribution limits of the campaign in the state of Texas.”

Talarico proposed legislation last year which would have capped donations to state level legislators at $ 10,000. There is no ceiling on such donations under the current law.
Donations come after Talarico appeared on the Podcast “Joe Rogan Experience” in July, during which he castigated the Republicans for accepting billionaire dollars.
“Basically, each senator from the Republican State in Texas has taken their money. Each. A majority of the Republicans of the Chamber of State have taken their money,” he told Rogan, referring to oil billionaires in the state. “They are increasingly leading all this government here in Texas.”

Meanwhile, the PAC of Adelson systematically supported Democrats and Republicans at the level of the State in Texas, putting pressure for the state to legalize the game of casino. In 2023, Talarico voted for a measure which would have given voters the possibility of approving the legalization of the casino by a constitutional amendment.
Talarico was among the approximately 50 Democrats in Texas who fled the state earlier this month in order to prevent the Republicans from adopting a new Congress card.

Talarico and his democratic colleagues returned to Austin this week, saying that they had achieved their objective of galvanizing democratic opposition across the country. Several democratic states are now threatening to carry out their own redistribution plans, while the parties are fighting for control over the House of Representatives of the mid-term elections of 2026.
