Secretary of State Marco Rubio applauded President Donald Trump for the progress he has made towards peace with regard to the war in Ukraine, when he accused the former Biden administration of doing nothing to change the circumstances of the war.
Rubio appeared on “Jesse Waters Crime Time” by Fox News on Monday evening after a day’s talks between US officials and European officials, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. During the appearance, he congratulated Trump as “the only world leader” who proved that he could negotiate a peace agreement between Ukraine of Zelenskyy and Russia by Vladimir Putin, adding that Monday talks were “unprecedented”.
“After three years of blocking, and without talks, and no change in circumstances, this is the first time that there seems to be a movement,” said the secretary. “It has been going on for three and a half years. Many people have died, many territories have exchanged back and forth, so it is not an easy thing to relax, but nothing was happening on this war. Literally, the only option which was given to us under the previous administration was to continue to finance Ukraine for many which they need, because it took.”

Rubio stressed that ultimately, under a new administration, people “really talk about ways towards the end (the war in Ukraine)”.
“It will take a little more work, and a little more time, but we are progressing,” said Rubio. “It is not me who says it, it is almost all the leaders there (Monday) said that.”
Rubio said that before Trump, Ukraine fights were nothing more than “stupid war of death and destruction”. He also complained that in virtue of Biden, there was no other plan than to continue to give weapons to Ukraine.
“It is the other dynamic that has changed – we no longer give Ukrainian weapons, we no longer give money in Ukraine, we sell them now and European countries pay it via NATO. They use NATO to buy weapons and transfer them to Ukraine,” said Rubio. “This is another big change compared to the way in which this war was approached under the Biden administration.”

Rubio shotns the report according to which Trump supports Putin’s plan for Russia to control the Donbas region of Ukraine
After the peace talks on Monday at DC, reports surfaced that Putin had accepted a future meeting with Zelenskyy, followed by a tri-lateral meeting involving the United States.
For Rubio, the fact that the two countries are open to talking is a victory and a big change compared to the previous administration.
“I am not saying that they are going to leave this play with a peace agreement, but I think that the fact that people are talking about it now – it did not happen for three and a half years,” Rubio told the host Jesse Waters, adding that Trump “made a priority” to provoke peace in Ukraine.

The secretary also cited six previous peace agreements which declared that Trump had negotiated, which, according to Rubio, proves Trump’s commitment to peace and fewer wars.

“President Trump is the only leader in the world – recognized by all Europeans – the only world leader who can speak at the same time (Putin and Zelenskyy) and bring them both to a meeting,” Rubio said on Monday evening. “We should be proud that we have a president who has made peace a priority in his administration.”
