The leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan have pushed any threat of reaction from the neighboring powers of Iran and Russia following a peace agreement to the United States’s judgment – an agreement greeted as the beginning of a new era, ending more than three decades of war and hostility in the South Caucasus.

In the exclusive digital interviews of Fox News, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Azerbaijani Ilham Aliyev both congratulated President Donald Trump and his envoy for their role in negotiating the framework agreement. They stressed that the agreement, which has promised regional economic integration and increased regional political cooperation, is not intended for any third party – and can in fact offer strategic advantages in Moscow and Tehran.

“It’s not a zero -sum game,” said Pashinyan. The agreement “contains advantages tangible enough for Iran and for Russia as well”.

“Iran would have access through the Persian Gulf railway to the Black Sea and Russia and Iran will have the opportunity to have a rail link between the two countries.”

Russia – a long -standing ally of Armenia and a presence in the region through its border guards – welcomed peace but sent a warning concerning American participation. His Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the agreement as “positive”, expressing hope of stability in the Caucasus, but warned that foreign participation should complement, and not complicate, the peace process.

The ministry stressed that regional solutions should include neighbors such as Russia, Iran and Turkey, and warned against the repetition of the traps of the interventions led by the West in the Middle East.

Aliyev echoes Pashinyan’s remarks and refused to see American diplomatic participation as a provocation to Moscow.

“It will be very difficult for any country – far or in our region – to say something wrong in today’s agreement,” he told Fox News Digital. “We took the last step towards peace.”

He added: “It is not against anyone. It is a connectivity project that will be one of the most important parts of international transport.”

At the heart of the pact is the Trump path planned for international peace and prosperity (tripp) – a transit road of around 27 miles connecting the continental azerbaijan with its exclave of Nakhchian, passing through Armenian territory. Armenia has granted American exclusive development rights via a 99 -year lease, allowing infrastructure projects such as roads, railway lines, pipelines, fiber optics and possibly energy transmission, aimed at opening new commercial and transit paths in the region.

This daring movement moves the regional dynamics, offering Washington a powerful strategic foot while bypassing the traditional Russian and Iranian roads.

Iran, on the other hand, responded with hostility.

Ali Akbar Velayati, a key advisor to the Iranian supreme chief, warned against the serious consequences if the “Zangezur corridor” – as the route calls it – is promulgated, claiming that it will not become a passage belonging to Trump, but rather a cemetery for the mercenaries of Trump, “according to the semi -official Tasnim news agency.

Iran has even shown to use military means to block the route.

At the national level, Pashinyan faces the opposition. Armenian nationalists, already fierce, criticisms of any agreement with Azerbaijan, consider the agreement as betrayal. The Republican Party of Armenia said that Pashinyan did not have the mandate to sign such a treaty, demanding total transparency and the end of concessions under external pressure.

Pashinyan, however, is not discouraged. He said the agreement could transform Armenia’s investment climate and attract foreign capital.

“We expect criticism, and that is part of democracy,” he told Fox News Digital. “But we are convinced that we made the right decision.”

Once the dominant power in the South Caucasus, Russia loses its grip. The war in Ukraine, growing sanctions and strains of resources have exhausted its regional influence, allowing the United States, Turkey and the European Union to extend their diplomatic scope.

Relations with Azerbaijan particularly disturbed after the flight of December 2024 of the Azerbaijan Airlines flight 8243. Aliyev accused Moscow of having accidentally pulled the jet of passengers with Russian air defenses during operations against Ukrainian drones, killing 38 people.

Aliyev told Fox News Digital that he did not believe that the incident was an intentional attack on the Russian management, but demanded an official admission of guilt, punishment for those responsible and complete compensation – so that Russia has resisted, apologizing only vaguely for what they called one “Tragic incident.”

And in the midst of political divisions, Pashinyan finds himself in a conflict with one of the most respected institutions in the country – the Armenian Apostolic Church, where personalities like the Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan led public demonstrations against Pashinyan’s decision to return the border villages to Azerbaijan.

On June 25, the authorities arrested Gallstanyan, a leading figure in the Church and the opposition movement of the “sacred struggle”, accusing him of orchestrating a terrorist plot to overthrow the government. The Armenia Inquiry Committee allegedly allegedly recruited that he had recruited more than 1,000 former members of the police and soldiers to organize bomb attacks, disturb the electricity networks and paralyze the transport networks.

Pashinyan assured that the judicial system acted independently of his government and “in full agreement with the law of Armenia, respecting all the rights of all”.
