Only two days after President Donald Trump took control of Washington, DC police to fight against violent crimes in the capital led by the Democrats, the Democratic Governor of the New Mexico declared the state of emergency on rampant violence and drug trafficking in a large part of his state on Wednesday.
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham announced the declaration of radical emergency in the county of Rio Arba, which includes two Amerindian communities of Pueblo. The county, which extends from the city of Española to the line of the state of Colorado, has long fought against some of the mortality rates by overdose of the highest opioids in the country.
Grisham said local leaders have pleaded for helping crisis and that public security threats have “exceeded local resources”.

The National Guard deployed to Blue City invaded by juvenile crime, fentanyl is “not enough,” says the GOP of the state
“When our local leaders called for help protect their communities, we responded immediately with decisive measures,” Grisham said in a statement. “We put all the resources available to support our local partners in the field and restore public security and stability to these areas which have been the hardest affected by this crisis.”
The emergency declaration makes $ 750,000 available to the Ministry of Internal Security and Emergency Management to coordinate response efforts and provide resources to affected communities.
Grisham said that an increase in criminal activity has contributed to an increase in roaming, family instability and fatal overdoses of drugs, which has exerted extraordinary pressure on local governments and police services that have requested immediate state aid.
She said police calls in Española and that the surroundings have more than doubled in the past two years. Police dispatches in companies in the region quadrupled during the same period.
The County of Rio Arriba currently has the highest mortality rate by overdose in the state, residents struggling with dependence on fentanyl and other illicit substances.

There was no immediate appeal to deployments of troops in the county, although the new declaration of emergency allows the authorities to call the National Guard. Emergency funds will help local law organizations to spend on overtime, equipment and coordinated police responses, said Grisham spokesperson.
The tribal governor of Santa Clara Pueblo at the edge of Española urged the State to approach an increasing crisis of public security resulting from the use and abuse of fentanyl and alcohol in the community as a whole.
“The Pueblo spent thousands of dollars trying to fight this crisis … and protect the children of Pueblo who are directly and negatively affected by the dependence of a parent or a tutor,” said Governor of Santa Clara James Naranjo in a letter in July to Lujan Grisham. “But we are not an isolated community and the causes and effects of fentanyl / alcohol abuse, increased crime and the increase in homelessness extend to the community in the broad sense.”
Grisham’s emergency declaration comes after sending the National Guard to Albuquerque in April to face a peak in juvenile crime and fentanyl. The National Guard was responsible for the safety of the premises and traffic control, the help of the carriers and other roles which do not imply arrests in order to release the resources of the Albuquerque police department.
Wednesday’s state of emergency was greeted by New Mexico Republicans, including the municipal councilor of Española, Sam Ledoux.
“I am happy that the governor addresses uncontrollable crime in our community,” said Ledoux. It has long been invalidated and untreated. Fentanyl has submerged our police forces, and it seems to be a step in the right direction to protect our citizens. “”

The president of the Republican New Mexico Party, Amy Barela also praised the announcement, but urged the governor to ensure that the deployment leads to a real change.
“This community has long been expected to receive aid to fight against the crime outside the control caused by the failure of the policies of our state leadership,” Barela said in a statement.

“Although I hope that the deployment of the National Guard will provide real assistance, the inhabitants of Española deserve more than simple street advisers – they deserve an action that addresses the root of the problem.”
“Thanks to the policies of FIRST America First of President Trump and his decisive measures to ensure the border, we have already started to see the crime rates decrease nationally. Now, it is time to put new-mexicans by ensuring that those who commit crimes are taken and held responsible.”
