Some of the shots occurred while the children and other parents of the victims were at home, although no one was injured.

The prosecutors said that Peña had organized the shootings in the houses of two commissioners of the Bernalillo County and two legislators from the New Mexico State in response to unsolved claims that electoral fraud contributed to its loss.

“Violence and intimidation do not take place in our elections,” the American lawyer for New Mexico Ryan Ellison said on Wednesday in a statement.

The officials targeted by Peña were all democrats and understood the current president of the State House.

After his unsuccessful campaign, Peña went to the home of the members of the Bernalillo County Council and Press them so as not to certify the results of the elections, claiming that the election had been “faked” against him.

When they refused and certified the results, Peña hired co-conspirators Jose Trujillo and Demetrio Trujillo to make the shots, prosecutors said.
