The Trump administration destroyed George Washington University on Tuesday as “deliberately indifferent” to what the Ministry of Justice considers a “hostile educational environment for Jewish, American-Israelis and Israeli students”.

The MJ announced that its civil rights division had concluded its investigation into “anti -Semitic discrimination incidents and harassment of Jewish and Israeli students” and found that the University based in Washington, based in DC, violated the federal law of civil rights.

“Each student has the right to equalize educational opportunities without fear of harassment or abuse,” said deputy prosecutor Harmeet Dhillon, the Civil Rights Division of the Ministry of Justice, in a press release. “No one is above the law, and universities that promulgate anti-Semitic discrimination will be faced with legal consequences.”

In a letter to the president of the University of George Washington, Ellen Granberg, Dhillon said that the Doj noted that “despite a real opinion of the abuses occurring on his campus, Gwu was deliberately indifferent to the complaints he received, to the misconduct that occurred and to the damage which was suffered by its students and its teachers, in violation of the law on 1964. “. The DoJ goes to the application and seeks “immediate remediation”.

The Ministry of Justice, which provides direct federal financial assistance to GWU, said that it offered the university the possibility of resolving the issue thanks to a “voluntary resolution agreement”. The state’s objective is “to ensure the immediate sanitation of these questions and related reforms to prevent recurrence of discrimination, harassment and abuse”.

Unlike Harvard and Columbia – who both faced the Trump administration on anti -Israeli demonstrations following October 7, 2023, Hamas Attacks – George Washington University is a private institution. However, due to its location in the national capital, federal agencies and global embassies, George Washington University is more exposed to federal surveillance and political influence.

The announcement of the DOJ comes a day after President Donald Trump announced a federal takeover of the DC police service, citing violent crimes in the national capital.

The federal survey on civil rights revealed that GWU students and teachers “were submitted to a hostile educational environment which was objectively offensive, severe and ubiquitous,” wrote Dhillon. “The anti -Semitic misconduct and based on the hatred of GWU students was directed against students, teachers and Jewish employees of GWU was, in a word, shocking. The behavior was manifestly odious, immoral and, above all, illegal.”

During final exams and graduation ceremonies in April and May 2024, Dhillon said that members of the university community engaged in “anti -Semitic and disruptive demonstrations which included the creation of a” camp “in the GWU Court”.

The DoJ said that the university had received “no less than eight complaints” during this period alleging that demonstrators discriminated against Jewish and Israeli students. Students, parents and former Jews also contacted university leaders to express “reasonable fears for their security” while the demonstrators continued their anti-Israeli campus. The DoJ also received anti -Semitic discrimination reports on the campus of George Washington University.

“The purpose of the efforts of the agitators was to frighten, intimidate and deny Jewish, Israeli and American-Israelis and without obstacles to the Gwu educational environment,” wrote Dhillon. “It is the definition of hostility and a” hostile environment “.”

The investigation also revealed that “many incidents” of Jewish students were harassed, mistreated, intimidated and assaulted by demonstrators, “wrote Dhillon.” To be clear, Jewish students were afraid to attend the course, to be observed, or, worse, to be “captured” and perhaps physically beaten on the GWU campus “.

Dhillon quoted a Jewish student who described being “surrounded, harassed, threatened, then ordered to leave the area immediately by anti -Semitic demonstrators after leaving the Faculty of Law, which is adjacent to University Yard”. His letter said that the assistant dean of GWU students asked the Jewish student to leave because his presence “upset and provoked the crowd”.

The deputy prosecutor general said that other Jewish students had provided similar stories of harassment and intimidation by demonstrators when they tried to cross the campus via University Yard.

“The demonstrators surrounded them, cried anti -Semitic insults on their faces and forced them to flee,” wrote Dhillon. “A Jewish student who quietly kept an Israeli flag on the University Court was confronted and surrounded by demonstrators with their arms linked together in order to restrict the movements of the Jewish student.”

Throughout the game, Dhillon said that the demonstrators shouted insults and a university policeman standing nearby “did nothing to prevent or intervene in the incident and rather told the student to leave University Yard for his own security”.

Dhillon said that another Jewish student who was holding an Israeli flag on the other side of the rue du Camptement was harassed by demonstrators who shouted “F — You, Zionist go to die”, “There is only one solution, the intifada revolution”, “Hamas Are Freedom Fighters” and “The Zionists go to hell!” She said that a university policeman also told this student to leave the region.
