Dozens of Texas Democrats flee the state to block a redistribution vote that could benefit the Republicans, marking a dramatic effort to derail an upcoming legislative process.

The legislators flew to Chicago where they plan to hold a press conference with the Governor of Illinois, JB Pritzker, on Sunday, according to the local station of Austin Kvue.

At least 100 Texas House members of 150 members must be present to carry out business. Josh Rush Nisenson, the spokesman for the house Democratic Caucus, told the Associated Press that at least 51 Democratic members leave the state.

The Republicans currently hold 25 of the 38 seats of the State. They are supported in their efforts to repeat President Donald Trump.

The Redecoupage proposal, which was introduced by the Texas House Republicans last week, would probably not bring back five new American republican seats in the mid-term elections of 2026.

Gene Wu, president of the House Democratic Caucus, defended the effort of the Democrats on Sunday in a declaration.

“This is not a decision that we take lightly, but it is the one we take with absolute moral clarity,” said Wu.

But leaving the state could expose the Democrats to sanctions, including fines, and the Attorney General Ken Paxton had previously threatened to arrest them for civil violation.

“(T) Hey should be found and arrested, no matter where they go,” said the Attorney General.

Although the proposal could still change, its current conception would incline traditionally democratic cities like Dallas and Houston in favor of the Republicans.

A previous Digital Fox News report revealed that the new Gerrymandered card would move the Democratic representative Jasmine Crockett on his own district.

The president of the DNC, Ken Martin, showed support for the Democrats of Texas on Sunday, writing that “(F) or too long, Donald Trump and Les Républicains tried to get away with the system, breaking the rules and diagrams to maintain power”.

“The DNC is proud to support these legislators by rising and showing real leadership,” he said. “We are going to fight alongside them to stop this anti-democratic assault. And, once this fight is finished, we fully hire force for the majority of the Maison des Républicains.”

The president of the Texas House of Representatives, Dustin Burrows, issued a warning to the Democrats on Sunday.

“The Texas House will be suitable at 3:00 pm tomorrow,” he wrote on X. “If a quorum is not present then, to borrow recent discussion points from some of my democratic colleagues, all the options will be on the table …”
