The American Special Advice Office (CSO) is investigating former special lawyer Jack Smith, the CSO confirmed to Fox News.
Smith was exploited in 2022 by the general of the time, General Merrick Garland to serve as a special advisor concerning two probes concerning the president of the time, Donald Trump.
The OSC is investigating Smith for having pretended to violate Hatch law, which prevents government employees from participating in political activities. It is not a criminal investigation.
Fox News Digital contacted the White House to comment on Saturday, but did not receive an answer.

The CSO is not the same as a special lawyer appointed by a Attorney General, like Smith, but “is an independent and prosecution agency”, according to its website.
“The statutory authority of the CSO comes from four federal laws: the law on public service reform, the law on the protection against the denunciators, the Hatch law and the law on employment rights and the rights of re -use in uniform (Userra)”, explains the website.

The Republican Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas recently asked the CSO to wonder if Smith illegally embarked on a political activity to influence the 2024 elections against Trump.
“I write by asking the office of special advisers to investigate the question of whether Jack Smith, special lawyer of the Attorney General Merrick Garland, illegally took political measures to influence the 2024 elections to harm the president of the then, President Donald Trump,” wrote Cotton in a July 30 letter to an interim lawyer Jamieson Greer.

“President Trump of course defeated Joe Biden, Jack Smith, all the Democrats who armed the law against him, but the surprising victory of President Trump does not apologize for his illegal electoral interference. I therefore ask the special consulting office to know if Jack Smith or his team members acted illegally,” Cotton.
