President Donald Trump expressed support to the organizations responsible for the application of laws and said he had fully confidence in their ability to determine why a “madman” had opened fire in a Manhattan office tower on Monday who killed a New York police officer.

“I was informed of the tragic shooting that took place in Manhattan, a place I know and that I love,” said Trump in an article on social networks on Tuesday. “I trust our police to reach the bottom of the reason why this madman has committed such an insane act of violence. My heart is with the families of the four people who were killed, including the NYPD officer, who made the ultimate sacrifice. May God bless the New York police service, and God bless New York!”

In total, four other people were killed during the shooting, notably the officer of the New York Police Department Didarul Islam, 36. Islam has been on the strength for three years and is left in mourning his pregnant wife and two children.

“He was doing the job we asked him to do. He endangered. He made the ultimate sacrifice,” police commissioner Jessica Tisch said on a press conference on Monday. “He died as he lived. A hero.”

“As a mark of respect for the memory of the NYPD officer Didarul Islam who died in the exercise of his duties and the multiple victims of the mass shooting in the Midtown Manhattan at 345 Park avenue yesterday, I ordered all the flags on all the buildings of the city and the stationary flags throughout the five arrondissements to be lowered.”

“The officer Didarul Islam died as he lived, a hero and protector from New York. We will never forget you,” wrote Adams in another article on X.
