President Donald Trump congratulated British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for slowing down illegal immigrant boats crossing the English channel, telling the leader of the United Kingdom that he made a “fantastic thing”.

Trump stopped for questions with Starmer and his wife, Victoria Starmer, before their meeting at the Trump Turnberry Golf Club in Scotland on Monday.

“Immigration is a big, an important factor. And I think, frankly, if they come from other countries, and you do not know who they are, and, they come from prisons? We have come from prisons that move them all,” Trump started. “Last month, we had no people in the country, zero other than to pass legal means.”

“You don’t do a good thing, you do a fantastic thing,” added Trump. So I don’t know anything about the boats. But if the boats are loaded with bad people, and they are generally, because, you know, other countries do not send their best, they send people they do not want, they are not stupid people. And they send the people they don’t want. And I heard that you took a much stronger position. “”

In June, customs and the protection of American borders (CBP) reported the lowest monthly total of illegal border meetings in the history of the agency. Border Patrol made 6,072 apprehensions along the southwest border, reflecting a 93% drop in the illegal meetings recorded in the same month of last year under the administration of former President Joe Biden. The Liberated Trump Administration illegal zero extraterrestrials For a parole in American interior – against 27,766 published in June 2024 under Biden.

Starmer told journalists on Monday that the Labor government had facilitated the abolition of around 35,000 people from the United Kingdom since it took power in July 2024.

“We are very happy that we were pursuing people who are not allowed to be here,” said Starmer.

“It’s great. As a person who loves this country – I like this country,” said Trump, noting that his mother was born in Scotland. “And it’s an incredible place, a beautiful place. And, if that’s the case, I congratulate you.”

Trump said Europe is a “very different place” of what it was five to 10 years ago due to mass migration.

“And they have to come together. If they don’t, you will no longer have Europe as you know. And you can’t do it. It’s a large part of the world. And you can’t ruin it,” said Trump.

“You can’t let people come here illegally,” said Trump. “And what is happening is that there will be murderers, there will be drug traffickers, there will be all kinds of things that other countries do not want. And they send them to you, and they send them to us, and you have to stop them. And I hear that you have taken a very strong position on immigration and take a position on immigration is imperative.”

Trump announces a trade agreement with the European Union

Their meeting on Monday comes from Trump in conclusion of the framework of a major trade agreement with the European Union. The agreement does not focus on immigration but has wider implications concerning American economic pressure on the block.

During a press conference in London earlier this month, Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron announced an agreement “One in, One Out” intended to dissuade the passages to Canal Migrants. The “Pilot” program would allow the United Kingdom to hold and return migrants who have arrived on its banks in small boats from France. In return, Starmer agreed to accept the same number of migrants from France who did not try to illegally penetrate into the United Kingdom and who are deemed to be disposed of legitimate asylum claims.

Starmer faces increased political pressure to keep his campaign promise to dissuade tens of thousands of migrants to cross the Channel.

Small boat passages have increased by more than 50% since January compared to the same period of last year, according to data from the British Home Office.

Last week, Starmer’s government unveiled what it judged the “first” sanctions for the world targeting the counterfeit migrants and other entities facilitating small passages. The British Foreign Minister David Lammy said that the program targeting the money flow and the suppliers of small boats and false passports provides the authorities with a toolbox to freeze the assets, cut off delinquents from the British financial system and prohibit delinquents from going to the United Kingdom to the United Kingdom

After a victory in the landslide labor elections last year, Starmer ended a controversial policy under the previous conservative government which allowed the expulsions in Rwanda for migrants who made illegal channels. To replace him, the secretary of the British house, Yvette Cooper, launched a new British border security command. It is intended to adopt an application approach and intelligence based on better protecting borders, identifying new paths of small boats and disrupting migrant smuggling operations.
