Major DC Children’s Hospital stops gender transition services for minors

Washington National Children’s Hospital, DC, has announced that it would no longer provide medical interventions related to gender transition.

The hospital’s “gender development program” web page displays a message for existing and new patients announcing the change, which will come into force on August 30.

“Given the climbing of legal and regulatory risks for national children, our service providers and families we serve, we will remove the prescription of affirming drugs,” said the message. “Mental health and other LGBT patient support services remain available. You are still welcome at Children’s National for your other medical needs.”

“We know that this change will have a significant impact on affected patients, families and staff. Our care teams work directly with families of current patients to support them,” he adds, urging people with questions to contact the hospital directly.

The announcement comes after the Ministry of Justice on July 9 sent more than 20 quotes to appear to doctors and clinics involved in carrying out transgender medical procedures on children.

The hospital also claims that it does not provide “surgery affirming sex” for anyone under the age of 18 and does not provide hormone therapy to children before the start of puberty.

The American Department of Health and Social Services in May published a report Frading gender transition treatments for minors as risky and insufficiently studied.
