The Democratic Party needs rebirth to reconnect with the working class, says Khanna

The Ro Khanna representative sounded on the establishment of the Democratic Party in his speech at the top of the voters of tomorrow for young progressives in Washington, DC

“How can we trust the government to do great things when the government has been corrupt? My friends, for those who want a progressive future, for those who want a government that works for security and opportunities for the working class, we have to get rid of big money in politics,” Khanna said in her speech on Friday afternoon.

The California Democrat then mentioned the files of Jeffrey Epstein, which became a major debate point in Washington, because some require more information on the case.

“We must restore a government for the people, by the people, of the people. The release of Epstein files is not a magic remedy for confidence, but this is a first step. This is a first step to say that we will have a new era of transparency,” he continued.

Khanna then denounced the establishment of her party in her closing call to action.

“I will end up this clear point: the old guard must go. The old ways have not worked. This part needs a new rebirth. This part needs a rebirth to defend human rights,” he said. “This part needs a rebirth to defend the working class. This party needs a rebirth to defend itself for people during the donor class.”

Former vice-president Kamala Harris is expected to make virtual comments at the summit on Friday, and the former speaker Nancy Pelosi was also a major speaker during the event.

“We do not doubt that we will win the elections with the House of Representatives,” said Pelosi during his speech. “Without a doubt.”

“It is important to be strong in the year in advance, because it is at this moment that the troops align. We have our messages, we have our mobilization, we need money to do so, but they only go next to a school to hold the most important part: the candidate,” she continued.

The young Democrats, like the first year of Arizona, the representative Yassamine Ansari and the candidate of the Congress of Illinois, Kat Abughazaleh, participated in panels at the summit.

Khanna’s address intervenes while the Democratic Party strives to sail in the second Trump administration and adapt to the major changes that occurred in the demography of voters during the 2024 elections, including among generation Z. The 2026 elections are considered an opportunity to obtain more information on voters of Gen Z, because many voted for the first time in 2022 and 2024.

Some in the party encouraged a more moderate leadership, while others have echoed the populist feeling of Khanna.

“This party needs a rebirth to find our courage in the defense of immigrant rights instead of fleeing when people speak of immigration. This party needs more people like you at the congress than the current people we have in the congress,” added Khanna.

“I am here to say that a new Democratic Party, a reborn Democratic Party, a populist democratic party, a multiracial democratic party, a democratic party that center the working class and the middle class, a democratic party that resembles the future is a democratic party that can bring us back to victory and led us to better America. It is time to take back our country,” he continued.
