New York Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ended up in the red, due to thousands of dollars to a brand of black accessories and led by women after breaking the “gift rule” in the room.
The violation stems from not paying the full market value of the items she put on at the Gala 2021 Mets, where she wore the “tax the rich” dress and accept free admission to the event for her fiancé, Riley Roberts.
Tickets for the Met Gala cost at least $ 30,000, reported the Associated Press. It is not known if Ocasio-Cortez bought his own ticket.
On Friday, the Chamber’s ethics committee published its report, noting that although Ocasio-Cortez “took measures proactively” to comply with the gift rule in relation to its appearance at Met Gala, it failed to comply fully.

The committee found evidence suggesting that the designer, Brother Vellies, may have reduced costs in response to the declarations of Ocasio-Cortez staff and that payments to the sellers have been considerably delayed, the report.
In several cases, the payment took place only after the creation of the survey, noted the committee.
The report also concluded that AOC staff were “too detained” on the sellers themselves to ensure their compliance with the gift rule, despite the compensatory incentives of the sellers to ensure that it would be able to promote their goods and services.

However, the Committee said that he did not conclude that the alleged sub-payments had been “intentional”, instead of blaming a campaign staff who treated discussions on payments.
AOC herself blamed her staff by speaking with investigators in March 2023, saying that she did not know any unpaid expenditure linked to the dress she had worn and to the stylists that prepared her for the gala, Fox News Digital reported.
“I would never have, never, never allowed it to happen, knowing what I learned,” Ocasio-Cortez said at the time. “But I was not aware of the bills, I was not aware of those who had been sent.”
Based on its conclusions, the Committee deemed appropriate for the Democrat to make additional payments from personal funds to compensate for the fair market value of certain expenses.

No sanction will be imposed, as long as it gives the value of $ 250 of the meal puts Gala from Roberts to the costume Institute and pays Brother Vellies 2,733.28 additional for the fair market value of the accessories which it received in relation to the Gala.
Once the committee has received confirmation that payments have been completed, he said he would consider the case closed.
