Senator Adam Schiff, D-Calif., Was referred to the Ministry of Justice for criminal proceedings concerning mortgage documents.
The director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency of the United States (FHFA) sent a letter to the Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Deputy Prosecutor General Todd Blanche in May, citing an alleged fault of Schiff, who has houses in California and Maryland.
“On the basis of media reports, Mr. Adam B. Schiff has, in several cases, falsified banking documents and property files to acquire more favorable loan conditions, which has an impact on payments from 2003 to 2019 for property based in Potomac, in Maryland,” the director of the FHFA wrote on Wednesday, which Fox News obtained. “As a regulator of Fannie MAE, Freddie Mac and federal banks on real estate loans, we take the allegations of mortgage fraud very seriously or other criminal activities. Such misconduct endangers the security and solidity of regulated FHFA entities and the security and stability of the American mortgage market.”
On Monday, Pulte received a service note for the financial crimes of Fannie MAE concluding that Schiff would have engaged in “a sustained model of false statement of occupation possible” on five loans Fannie MAE, Fox News learned.
Schiff responds to Trump’s accusations, calls for his withdrawal of his functions
It is not clear if the Ministry of Justice pursues measures against Schiff at that time, but earlier this week, President Donald Trump has asked that his long-standing enemy be brought to justice for the alleged mortgage fraud system.
Fox News Digital contacted the Ministry of Justice for more information, but they did not immediately respond.
Schiff and his wife bought a house in Potomac, Maryland, in 2003 for $ 870,000, according to the letter. They concluded a mortgage agreement supported by Fannie MAE for $ 610,000 at a rate of 5.625% over a period of 30 years, saying that property would be their main and main residence.
The letter said it reaffirmed that the Maison du Maryland was their main residence in mortgage refinancing documents in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013, although Schiff is an elected representative of California at the same time.
Fox News obtained a copy of the 2011 Affidavit showing that Schiff signed by certifying that the Maison du Maryland is its main residence.
Pulte said that Schiff and his wife have not listed Maryland’s house as a second home in 2020.
In the same time, Schiff took the tax exemption from an owner on a condo he has in Burbank, California, also claiming that the house as its main residence for a reduction of $ 7,000 on the 1%property tax, Pulte wrote, citing media reports.
In 2023, noted the letter, a spokesperson for Schiff said that “Adam’s main residence is Burbank, California, and will remain so when he won the Senate’s seat”.
“Primary residence mortgages receive more favorable loan conditions, including lower interest rates, than side residence mortgages,” said the letter. “Lenders consider that side residence mortgages as significantly more risky, because a borrower is more likely to continue to reimburse a mortgage of primary residence during financial difficulties.
Trump accuses the “crook” Schiff of lying on Maryland Home to commit mortgage fraud
The federal housing manager wrote that he thought that the alleged misconduct of Schiff could be violations of federal criminal codes prohibiting wired fraud, mail fraud, banking fraud and false statements to financial institutions.
Schiff “seems to have falsified files in order to receive favorable loan conditions and also seems to have been aware of the financial advantages of a primary residence mortgage compared to a side residence mortgage,” wrote Pulte.
According to the letter, a spokesperson for Schiff in 2023 told CNN that “Adam’s addresses in California and Maryland were listed as primary residences for loan because they are both occupied throughout the year and distinguish them from a vacation property.”
Last year, noted the letter, a federal jury condemned Marilyn Mosby for having made false declarations on a mortgage request for a Florida condominium when she was the prosecutor of the state of Baltimore.
The letter also quoted how a man from Saint-Louis pleaded guilty last month to fraudulently obtain hypothesics at home “after the hard work of the IG and the DOJ of our agency”.
“Unfortunately there are too many examples of people who commit fraud or mortgage fraud,” wrote Pulte. “As always, we are impatient to cooperate with the Ministry of Justice to support all the actions that the Ministry of Justice considers appropriate. The United States Federal Housing FHFA appreciate the support of the Ministry of Justice to ensure the protection of buyers of American houses and taxpayers of mortgage fraud and other financial misconduct.”
Trump went to social networks on Tuesday demanding that Schiff be held responsible.
“I have always suspected that Shifty, Adam Schiff, was a crook. And now I learn that Fannie Mae’s financial crimes division concluded that Adam Schiff has embarked on a supported model of possible mortgage fraud,” wrote Trump in part on Truth Social. “Mortgage fraud is very serious, and Adam Schiff (today Senator) must be brought to justice.”

Schiff, a member of the Congress until his election in 2024 in the upper House, led the investigation into the dismissal of the House Intelligence Committee on Trump for asking Ukraine investigating Joe Biden, whose son Hunter held a lucrative concert in a Ukrainian natural gas company during his vice-president. Schiff has also published several quotes to appear and held several audiences alleging that Trump has “colluted” with Russia.
Schiff published a video statement on Tuesday reacting to the allegations of mortgage fraud, saying Trump has long threatened to continue him.

“He accused me of betrayal, he also accused me of having disclosed classified information, he accused me of fraud, it was essentially one thing after the other, everything without foundation, all without merit,” said Schiff. “It is not new – but its attacks on the rule of law are more dangerous than ever.”
